AKPK

Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency

Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit — a free agency set up by Bank Negara Malaysia in 2006 to give individuals free financial counselling, money-management education, and help restructuring debt. Its help costs you nothing.

AKPK offers three main services, all free: one-to-one financial counselling, financial education, and the Debt Management Programme (DMP) that restructures your unsecured debts with participating banks. You can approach AKPK before you fall behind, not only in a crisis — it can help you build a workable budget and understand your options without judgement.

Because AKPK is backed by Bank Negara and does not charge fees, it is the safe first stop when debt feels unmanageable — far safer than paying a private 'debt settlement' company. Seeking AKPK's help is a responsible step, not an admission of failure, and using its programme is very different from going bankrupt. If you are struggling, contacting AKPK early keeps more options open.
